The kids are playing as the sun begins to set. It’s almost time to call it a day. Next comes the classic five-minute warning, immediately followed by negotiations for ten more minutes of play. Naturally, I agree. I need the break, too.
Looking out over the fields, the trees dance in the warm golden light. It’s that evening threshold where night meets day, and cool air begins to soothe the heat. We welcome the cool breeze, even if we’re a little sad to see the sun go.
This piece was inspired by a few photos I snapped at Winterville Recreation Park, just moments before the bedtime negotiations began. I was tired and ready to rest, but I couldn't help soaking in the sound of laughter, the games, and the glowing sky. It’s a gentle reminder of those quiet transitions: a quiet calm to ground us and carry away the heavy worries of the day.
